Long Weekend Fun

Thank goodness for LONG weekends! We have really been enjoying some quality family time. Daddy bought Jake and Brady a new tent and they pitched it in the toy room and "camped out" in it Saturday afternoon. That night, Ma and Poppy took us out for some yummy dinner and frozen custard (with Uncle Jarrod, Aunt Julie, and Makayla too). Afterwards, Poppy and Ma came by the house to see the boys' new tent and to play for a bit. After showing them around their tent, Jake and Brady challenged Grandma to a game of "War" and then they convinced her to build some train tracks. The boys always have a great time when Poppy and Ma are around.

The boys decided not to sleep in the tent last night, but filled it with lots of blankets, stuffed animals, and all things cozy, and they were ready for tonight! As I type this, the whispers and giggles are fading, and they are drifting off to sleep under the stars (actually the ceiling fan in the toy room and the glow of the night light). I can't wait to hear of their camping adventure in the morning. Good night Sweet Boys!

WOW, that was stupid.

So, I thought I would take a few pictures of the monster storms heading for us. You know, just to see if I could get a good one. I got several, and now I am thinking God is about to smite my yard for me being so stupid. Boys, don't pull this crap...enjoy the pictures, but don't repeat it.

Ahh, that's not so close.

Impressive, but I've seen better.

HOLY SON-OF-A..BLEEEEP!

Good 'Ol Chocolate Chip Cookies

We haven't baked anything since school started, and that just wasn't good enough for the LeBlanc house! So...tonight Chef Brady and I (Jake said he wanted to just relax because he was tired from a long day at school) made some delicious chocolate chip cookies! We made enough to enjoy some at home and bring some for our wonderful teachers at school tomorrow. We are definitely going to have to make some more room in our busy schedules for baking these days! YUM!!

Suppa

We went over to Mimi and O's for supper tonight. The boys got to play a lot and eat a good meal. Then Mimi called them in to the kitchen to make some ice cream. The boys love cooking anything so they were pretty excited. O even got in on the action. Sure he just handed them stuff but still, he was there. It turned out great, especially with Mimi's chocolate cake.

Happy Birthday x 2

Yesterday we had two birthday bashes to hit up. Opposite sides of town, but we roll hard yo.

First we stopped by sweet little Abbie's 2nd birthday party. Abbie takes after her father in the running till you drop department, and showed the boys just how it's done. What a sweetheart. The boys got her a baby doll and couch/blanky thing. Hey, what do we know about girls around here...it was pink and purple so we bought it. She liked it though, so we apparently know just enough. I wish we could have stayed longer and gotten to hang out with that little angel. The boys really loved her.

But we had to rush out the door because up next we had to get to...

Oscar's 7th birthday party at Pump-it-Up. The boys always love that place, even though they end up a giant sweaty mess. Oscar had a good time and scored some awesome gifts too. What a cool dude. He's a sports nut, so pretty much all his presents were basketball, football or baseball related. After all that exercise the boys had no trouble sleeping like logs last night.

Happy Birthday again to you two goofballs. Thanks for letting us share in your day.

Enough

This has been a long week. I haven't seen my boys enough. I haven't seen my wife enough. I haven't slept enough. This whole "adjusting to a new schedule" thing is bullshiz. I don't think I will ever get used to not seeing Jake but a few minutes Mon-Thurs. I don't ever want to either. I love that I can spend Fridays in class with him but it's just not enough. With Brady, it's a little different but not much. I get breakfast and lunch with him and then he's gone too. Cindy is doing a fantastic job in my absence. Not that the boys wouldn't benefit from having me around more, but she is stepping up big time.

This weekend is going to be a little busy, but we will all be together the whole time which is awesome. I'm really looking forward to Labor Day weekend too. Man, when kids start school it really makes you look ahead to the Holidays even more than they do. I know some parents look forward to school starting so it gets their kids out of their hair, but I'm just not one of those parents. Life is too short for that kind of thinking. Soon enough my dudes will be going off to find their own adventures far and away from me. So for right now, I'm trying to make every moment I get with them count. I want them to be able to look back and remember the times we were together and not the times we were apart.

C,J,B....I miss you and love you with all my heart. See you in the morning.

Stitches are no more

Allow me to backtrack a little bit. After school on Friday Jake had his appointment to get the stitches out. I meant to post about it then, but SURPRISE!, I am lazy and forgetful. Anyhoo, Jake did great, not a single complaint. Brady was the official photographer, using my camera phone to capture the moment. He's a junior Ansel Adams that one. We got to keep the stitches even though I'm not sure what we will do with them. Maybe a creepy shadowbox?

Homework For The Weekend

Jake's family homework for the weekend, was the create a "Silly Face Glyph" using the instructions provided by his teacher. Here is how his came out. Isn't he cute?

Key:
Face color: Jake's favorite color
Eye color: First name begins with A-J
Nose Shape: Jake has a brother
Mouth shape: Jake lives in a house
Hair color: Jake's birthday is in September
Freckles: Jake's age

Pepe'

A few minutes ago we were sitting on the couch watching the Olympics when this little lover showed up. He was on the hunt for some ladies/bugs on the baseball field and didn't care if I got close enough for a few pictures. As long as he keeps a cork in it, he is welcome back anytime.

Jake's First Kindergarten Homework

Tonight Jake had his first homework assignment for Kindergarten. He had to write names and draw pictures to create a family tree. He did a great job, and Brady sat beside him and did his own "work" at the table. We are very proud of him and we're sure Mrs. W. will be too!

A Great First FULL Day!

Great job Jake! Your teacher told us what a good listener you are and how very well behaved you were today. We are so proud of you!
(For those of you who are confused, Jake & Brady (and Mommy!) attend a Make Your Day school.)

Way to go Brady! Your teachers told us all about how helpful and kind you were today. We are so proud of you!

First Day

There are certain milestones in life that I have been looking forward to and dreading at the same time. Today we reached one of those milestones. Kindergarten. Wow. Almost six years ago I was standing in a hospital looking down at my firstborn son and wondering what he would be like when he got older. When he would cry inconsolably, I would wish for him to be older so I wouldn't have to hear that anymore. When he crawled I wanted him to be older so he could take walks with me, and go more places. Now, I wish I could take back all those wishes for him to be older and just have that little ball of hair and giggles back. Everyday he makes huge strides towards becoming the man I always hoped he would be, but I can wait for that. I want him to stay little a little while longer.

Then, there is Brady. He's now the big man in Preschool. The one all the other kids will look to and model after. I'm not saying that as a braggadocio, that's just his role in his particular preschool. He is such a cool kid and it tears my heart out to know I won't be with him all day anymore. Our baby boy is growing like a weed and soon will be joining his brother in the "gone all day" ranks. For now though I will enjoy the heck out of our few hours in the morning spent together. He makes me smile like no one else can. I want to always have the relationship he and I share right now, and I'll fight tooth and nail to keep it going.

It's all happening too fast and I am not ashamed to say I have cried my eyes out more than a few times over it. In our society, Fathers aren't supposed to express these feelings, especially about sons, but I think that's a giant mistake we have all collectively made. I have never been the kind to follow BS tradition so forgive me if I seem a little off. My love for my sons is the strongest emotion I have ever felt, and I know it's like that for you more "reserved" dudes out there too. We all feel this way and dammit, its alright to talk about it and cry about it. Life is too short. I tell my sons over and over day after day how much I love them and how proud I am of them. I don't ever want there to be a doubt.

So now.....The First Day.

I cooked the boys a big-man breakfast this morning. Eggs, bacon, biscuits and OJ. After all, if they are gonna go conquer the world, they can't do it on a less than stuffed belly. While they ate, we talked about school, their teachers, their old friends and the new friends they would meet. To say they were excited is a vast understatement. After breakfast, they ran to get dressed and get their shoes on. While they got dressed, I packed Jake his first lunch. An uncrustable, chips, Gatorade, snackpak pudding (thanks Billy Madison), and a banana for snack time. We then headed out the door to the great unknown...well almost. They've kind of known their teachers over half their lives. Still.

Parking at school was flippin' crazy. Took us about 10 minutes of cruising around to get a spot. Finally, we made it inside and went to see Mommy for a few minutes before we had to go to class. I could tell it was taking a lot for her to keep her composure, so good thing we had a time crunch. Because Brady's class is an afternoon class he got to come and hang out for a while before his class began. So the three boys headed down to Mrs. W's class to start the adventure.

Jake was right at home as soon as he walked in the door. No shyness, no nervousness, he was just...ready. Exactly what Mrs. Dexter had told us she wanted to achieve in his time in preschool. She is one smart cookie. Now he gets the perfection in the big K that is Mrs. W. If you can envision what you would want your child's teacher to be like, in every way possible, she is it. Heck she even sounds like a Kindergarten teacher. She has been our friend for a lot of years, but I say this as a parent, not as her friend. We are lucky to have her leading our little dude through his first year. I was totally at ease in her classroom from the beginning and more importantly Jake was. He sat down and filled out his first assignment and turned it in promptly. He's already improved upon my academic model. After that, we had a couple parent meetings that gave Jake time to meet his friends away from the crazy paparazzi/parents. Brady went and hung out in Cindy's classroom like a champ.

When we were all done with the meetings, we all three got to have lunch together. That was huge for me. I hadn't planned on eating with Jake, but I'm glad I did. I know Brady really enjoyed it too. Even though cafeteria food leaves a lot to be desired, I was a happy camper. Cindy even got to stop in and visit. Woo to the Hoo y'all!

After that, Jake's day was just about over and Brady's was set to begin. Brady kept asking us, "Now? How about now? Can we just go now?" By the time we said, "Yes" he was chomping at the bit. After giving Mrs. Dexter a huge hug, he walked in his classroom like King Dingaling. He knew where his cubby was, what he wanted to play with first, who he wanted to see. That truly is a magical place to him, where he can be and do anything he wants. He met a lot of new friends and some old buddies from last year. He is a gentle and patient friend, and that's going to take him far not only this year but the rest of his life. While the kids played, I filled out paperwork and looked up to see Big Jake rumble in to see his old stomping grounds. The boys played together until it was about time to go. Mrs. H even snuck them a few pieces of contraband (gum) for being such good kids while the grownups were talking.

I took the boys home to hangout a while before I had to go to work tonight. We talked and laughed and I tried to soak it all in. Today compared to tomorrow was easy as pie. I got to spend a lot of time with both of them and was never really away for more than an hour. Tomorrow, Jake will leave with Cindy, and I might not see him much at all. Luckily my awesome wife suggested we grab a quick bite on my lunch break so we can catch up. It's not something we will be able to do all the time, but it will take the sting out of the day for sure. Plus, I am off every Friday so I'll get to spend the whole day volunteering at the school. So, even though it's going to get rough there are a lot more positives than negatives. We are a lucky family to live the life that we lead. If I didn't have such a strong wife, and such able kids...I would be a total mess right now. Errrr...more of a total mess.

One more thing...I love you Cindy! I love you Jake! I love you Brady! I love our family!

A little note for the lunchbox. You should have seen Jake's face when he read it.

My two huge dudes.

Out that door walks greatness.

Perfect timing

You ever have one person in your life that no matter how good things are going, how well you have things planned, always manages to insert themselves and screw things up? A person whose levels of hypocrisy and selfishness are seemingly limitless? Hey, I do too! Awesome isn't it? Can't beat a good ol' fashioned-last-minute-surprise-kick in the nuts to make your contented smile turn into a "here we go again" frown. This time is a little different though. I am older and wiser and less affected by their lack of sanity. We will have an awesome day tomorrow in spite of their best efforts to ruin it. So, I say nice try. Better luck next time.

Sorry for the tone of this post, but it had to be said. For anyone wondering if this is about them, it is most likely not about you. This is for one person who may or may not even read this. I had to get it off my chest regardless.

Our Weekend

After the excitement of the ER visit Friday night, the rest of our weekend was much more calm. We ran some errands and got a lot done before the big first day of school on Monday (more to follow about that). Saturday night we had dinner with Mimi and O at Cracker Barrel. "Lucky" the Monkey even came along!

Jake and Mimi with "Lucky."

J&B rockin' outside Cracker Barrel.

After a haircut from Daddy on Sunday (no more mohawks), we went to T.G.I. Fridays for a belated b-day dinner for Mommy. We are happy to say that the weekend ended much better than it began!
Brady enjoyed his "cup of dirt" for dessert!

And he made sure Poppy got a good taste of it too!

Meeting The Teachers

Before our trip to Waterworld and our very first set of stitches, Daddy brought Jake and Brady up to school for "Meet The Teacher" Night. Mommy was already there, of course, meeting some of her students. First up was Preschool where Brady will be returning as the "big man" this year. He will be an old pro and ready to help out the other kids. Jake and Brady ran up to give big hugs to Mrs. D, Mrs. S., Mrs. H., and the other Mrs. H. The teachers were just as excited to see Jake and Brady again, and couldn't believe how much they had grown over the summer!

Next up was a visit to Jake's Kindergarten teacher for this year. Wow, that's even a little hard to type...KINDERGARTEN!! Unbelievable. Jake is going from one set of awesome teachers right to another. Mrs. W. (aka Mrs. G. - name change) is the most incredible Kindergarten teacher out there, folks. You walk into her room and it makes YOU want to go back to Kindergarten. She sat and talked to Jake for quite a while and Jake's faced beamed the whole time. As we were leaving, Mrs. W. told Jake she couldn't wait to hear all about his trip to Waterworld, and boy does he have a story to tell!

Although Jake and Brady know most of the teachers at their school pretty well since Mommy works there, they love these nights where they aren't there just as Mommy's boys, but as their teachers' students too. We are so blessed to be at such an incredible school with absolutely amazing teachers. I would want nothing less for these two wonderful little boys. It is going to be a great year!
